Even after a million baseball stories, that is an absolute gem. Living in Michigan, I can tell you that Jim Abbott is revered out here. I built a kitchen for an uncle of his who tells me that Jim is a highly sought-after (duh) motivational speaker. That guy is a walking, talking example of motivation. My assistant coach bumped in to him at a hotel in Michigan's UP, and Jim signed stuff and even threw the ball around with the kids. Great guy. I bet they miss him and Finley down at Cappy's.
