Swami Lebronananda

May 23, 2009

I’m pretty sure most of you know of my yoga habit. It all started about 20 years ago in response to being  the 13th guy picked in the world MLB baseball draft. The whole thing kind of caught me by surprise. I knew I would get an opportunity to play pro ball, but I’d done such a good job of keeping the blinders on and just competing that I hadn’t paid any attention to the draft hype.

Then I got the call. Pick number 13, KC Royals. Don’t get me wrong, I was pleased and instantly wealthier than I’d thought possible. I did however feel the instant pressure of real or imagined expectations. So, I did what anyone would do before the day of the computer…I picked up the phone book and rifled through it looking for help.

True story, the first thing I came to was “The Yoga Center”. I can remember pointing at it and saying to myself “that young man is what you need”. The rest is history. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to tell how big an impact it had on my career (not to mention life). I know it kept me injury free, sharpened my focus, and kept me relatively sane.

To this day my knees feel great…and that’s after well over 1000 games caught and a billion hours in the bullpen.

Anyway, the reason I’m going on about all of this (aside from maybe inspiring some young – or old – athletes) is because while I was watching that incredible Cavs/Magic game last night, I saw that Lebron does yoga. Check it out Lebron yoga man.

Here is a great article on King James’ yoga practice.  Click lebron’s_extra_edge.

Give it a go….guaranteed to enhance your life.

Wait a second!!!!  Kareem Too??!!!  Where have I been?

” Everybody eats yoga, who doesn’t like the fruit in the bottom?!”. Yoga Berra has always been my favorite Jankee!

If you remember VIC, you might be surprised that he and his wife run a yoga center, and he has been instructing for about 5 years now. I started for a bit over here, but my instructor was just to lazy (yes B that’d be me).
